AmeiN!

The MapServer extension for ArcGIS©

[April 2010] As you can glean from the paragraphs below the AmeiN! extension is several years old which constitutes an eternity in the internet age. The company terrestris for various reasons has decided to not continue the development of the extension in contrast to the used components UMN and ArcGIS which have progressed several versions in the meantime. You are nevertheless welcome to try the extension and see if it still works with the newer versions of the mentioned software. Since we also did not maintain the handbook we are publishing it now on the internet. You can download it here.

Since AveiN!, the MapServer extension for ArcView© GIS, was such a success terrestris was lucky to find three sponsors who helped finance the programming of the interface between the UMN-MapServer and ArcGIS. AmeiN! is the result and in analogy to AveiN! stands for “ArcMap© einfach ins Netz!” the german acronym for “ArcMap online with ease”. AmeiN! will generate a UMN MapServer project which you can upload to your server and directly access as a Web Map Service (WMS).

AmeiN! features:

  • symbol export from ArcMap©.
  • element configuration of the legend, the scalebar, the overview- and main map. All settings have an animated preview function following the WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) principle.
  • definition the data origin and adoption of PostgreSQL/PostGIS database connection.
  • AmeiN! copies the structure of the UMN MapServer mapfile and will let you define about 90% of all possible settings of a mapfile.
  • True-Type-Font, point- and line symbols as well as all area colours and hatchings export. The complete application just needs to be copied to the web server.
