Summary
Due to the success of Google Maps, Google Earth and the free OpenStreetMap-Projekt geodata and maps on the internet are increasingly popular. This book (unfortunately only available in German) shows how to make maps with data from different providers like Yahoo, Google or Microsoft using the Open-Source-JavaScript-library OpenLayers. In addition it is described how to integrate geodata services like WMS and WFS and how to use the free data from the OpenStreetMap community. Step by step you can program browser based WebGIS-application (GIS: Geographical Information Systems). You get to implement map services in OpenLayers using UMN Mapserver and GeoServer and manage your own geodata with the PostgreSQL database also using the extension PostGIS.
